We are really excited to have our first fruit allocation from the excellent certified organic vineyard Two Terraces, farmed by Ian and Linda Quinn.
Ian and Linda farm their vineyard with an exceptionally high level of care and detail producing some of the best grapes in Te Matau a Māui Hawke’s Bay. We have been on their waiting list for a long time now and are very excited to be releasing our first wine from Two Terraces vineyard, our Big Little Things Chenin Blanc 2023.
We harvested both Chenin Blanc clones 220 and 880 by hand at the same time (on a full moon), since this was our first chance to experiment with Chenin we wanted to see how it responded to a couple of different processes. The 880 clone was whole bunch pressed direct to tank for wild ferment then aged on lees; this ferment was linear and austere with real drive.
The 220 had a riper more honeyed note to the grapes at harvest so we thought we would amplify that with a skin ferment. The grapes were destemmed and fermented on skins for 7 days and this wine has an electric acidity and fruit combination with phenolic texture and structure. The two batches were combined for natural MLF and aged on lees till bottling.
Blend: 100% Chenin Blanc (63% clone 220, 37% clone 880)
Analysis: pH 3.84 TA 5.08 FSO2 0 RS0.16 Alc 11%
